Happy 80th
Grampa also received a nice birthday gift from the doctor; he is officially allowed, now, to drive, go to the putting green and even take out the trash. Of course, he is indefinitely banned from mowing the lawn; it makes you wonder if, just maybe, that was by request.
Happy 80th Grampa!

Guess who's back
I awoke this morning, early, to a familiar thunking sound. I thought I was imagining it. Turns out, I wasn't. That whacky cardinal is back, the one that throws himself into my windows daylight till dusk.
Notice him in the picture, sitting on my swing. I don't have my video camera with me, but not a lot has changed, except the background scenery. He continues to whallup himself against the window. I guess he enjoyed it so much last year, he decided to start early. Last year, he didn't start this until the spring weather, around mid March.
In case you have forgotten how his antics look, this is the original post.

I'm sleeping here - don't bug me
Lucy hates me. Or at least, she pretends to. Every time I visit she bites me and hisses, putting on a show that makes me look like a wretched old woman who hates cats.
I do not hate cats (unlike other members of my family). And, cats do not usually hate me.
Today, though, Lucy decided she liked something about me - namely my overnight bag. I went up to take a shower and Lucy was in my bag, and when I went to retrieve my things, she bit me and wouldn't come out. Eventually I was able to get out my underwear, but Lucy stayed in the bag.
Later, when I came back, she was still in there asleep. I didn't mind, and I scratched her head and left her. I guess she liked that, because when she came down stairs she let me pet her - the fisrt time ever, without being bitten. I guess cats have a give/take attitude; they want to take what they like, then they are willing to give.
At least I am glad she likes me, for today. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Toto, we're not in Kansas

I must have taken a wrong turn. I worked in Memphis all last week, and it was nearly 7o degrees every day. Then I drove north, to Ohio. Not even northern Ohio either, Columbus is smack-dab in the middle of the state. Not even 8 hours away.
All the way from Kentucky, my car thermometer read 6 degrees. I thought, "something must be broken, that can't be right. It only gets this cold in Alaska."
But my thermometer was right. Now it is -11 (that's NEGATIVE eleven) and still falling. It is so cold, your spit freezes before it hits the ground, and so dry, you can electrocute yourself just petting the cat. It's no surprise, in such weather, that when you need an item from the market, you don't want to get out of the car.
I wanted to go and see Stevie's apartment, so on the way over, he told me to take a stop at the market, for a very important item. Trouble was, he didn't want to go in. So we pulled into this place, a drive through market for important essentials. You don't even have to get out of your car for a $20 bottle in sub-zero weather. This is a real necessity.
I sure wish we had these in Tennessee. Of course, I just wish we could by a corkscrew in Tennessee, but that's a whole other matter.

Quilted leaves

I really dislike to leave projects unfinished, but I am so guilty of it, and too often. I decided it was time to get just one more of my unfinished projects into the completed pile. Last year, I started this awesome leaf quilt. Last fall, to be precise. I finished the whole top of it within a couple of weeks, but then I never put the quilting in it, or put the back on.
So tonight, I pulled out Michelle's sewing machine (thanks, Michelle, for the loan), and I started to sew. Well, first I laid the whole thing out and pinned it, then I started sewing (minor details). I thougth I was going to stitch it by hand, but that is a joke. I have a hard enough time finishing something when I can use modern inventions, like a sewing machine.
In case you don't recall this design, it is the one where I hammered the leaves into the muslin. That's how I got the leaf print. I got it about half finished tonight, tomorrow night, hopefully, I will get the rest of it stitched. Then I will put on the edging. It is no masterpiece, but it is my own creation, and I had fun doing it.
Sorry, I am not taking orders at this time....unless you are willing to wait until just before the end of the world for delivery.

74 Never looked so good
With Grampa recovering from bovine surgery, and Gramma recovering from Grampa recovering, it was time to get back to business. So I went to work in Memphis.Just so happened that, while I was in the kingly city, Elvis had a birthday. He turned 74, or, should I say, he would have. One nice thing about being dead on your birthday is, people always show pictures from when a person is really young, in their prime; not the fat and ugly ones.
I didn't manage to get over to Graceland (darn) so I missed the the graveyard visitation, the kingly mansion tour, and scavenger hunt (wonder what they were looking for?). Oh, and I also missed seeing the photo of Elvis when he met President Nixon, the time he went to D.C. to ask if he could have Federal Narcotics Badge. I am not kidding.
All in all, my time in Memphis was good. Instead of seeing the Elvis lookalikes, I settled for seeing an Elvis fan in Memphis city schools, dress up in all black to commemorate the day. So, it wasn't a total loss.
